Empowering Youth to Read, Imagine, and Create
Our Story
Smartie Kid Squad is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization founded in 2017 by two sisters and elementary students, Kylah and Kynlee Khan, along with their mother, Heather. Smartie Kid Squad was solely based on social media, sharing suggested readings, imaginative and creative project ideas, as well as family activities. In 2019, Smartie Kid Squad wished to assist with the book scarcity within the school system and spearheaded a book drive collecting over 100 books for a local Houston area elementary school, from then on Smartie Kid Squad has made it their mission to assist families with reading materials, by donating to local causes and families.
Smartie Kid Squad wishes to show children that reading is not only beneficial, but it is fun, entertaining, as well as educational. WHO SAID READING COULDN’T BE FUN? Smartie Kid Squad will show and teach children ways to utilize their imagination and creativity through the books they read.

Why is Reading Important?
Currently, 45 million Americans are unable to read above a fifth-grade level, and 61% of low-income households do not have one book present within their homes. According to the Department of Education, the more children/students read or are read to for fun on their own time and at home, the higher their reading scores. Reading allows children to build their vocabularies, build self- esteem, and see that there are endless possibilities. Smartie Kid Squad is hoping to create change one book, one family at a time.
A free book program for qualified applicants called the Raising Readers Program. The program will service children ages 4-12, promoting enhanced reading skills, imagination, and creativity, along with family bonding.
